World-class training boosts your employability!

When Local 1460's employer-clients are happy with our skills, there's more demand for our members - and more income and security for them and their families!

Millwrights respect the value - to our brothers and sisters, to our contractor clients and to the trade as a whole - that comes from the highest-quality training and upgrading. And we welcome our responsibility to pass our knowledge and our values on those who follow us.

Our belief in training has resulted in a newly-opened, state-of-the-art Provincial Millwright Training Centre in Edmonton that includes 3,000 square feet of shop training space.

The core of this centre is a contemporary, multi-million-dollar hydrogen compressor donated to us by Petro-Canada. The compressor enables us to offer hands-on training not available anywhere else in Canada.

No-cost training!

All of our training courses (and any associated travel and accommodation) are free to members - even the courses we offer at the amazing $67.6 million UBC International Training Centre in Las Vegas!

Here are some of the training and upgrading courses that are available to you, absolutely free, as a member of our Local:

  • Reciprocating Compressor Course - 2 Modules
  • Gas Turbine Familiarization
  • Steam and Gas Turbine Certificate Training
  • Hy-Torc Certification
  • Laser Alignment
  • Optical Leveling
  • CWB Welding
  • UBC Rigging and Signaler Certification
  • Better Supervision

In addition to the training we offer at our Edmonton training centre, we'll still be sending some of our members to Las Vegas for more complex courses. There, they'll work with other Millwrights from all over North America, learning front-edge skills from highly qualified instructors.

The Millwright Training Program at the Las Vegas Centre is so highly regarded that our union has training partnerships with the likes of General Electric and Siemens-Westinghouse.

The quality of our training program is the main reason why, when Alstom Power and Hitachi build in Alberta, our members supply the skills.
